GILLETTE, WY- The Dickinson State University Men's Track & Field team competed in the Conglomerate Open on Saturday with Brandon Ruffin, Jose Chorro, Josh Torgerson and the 1,600 Relay team winning events.
"We've been working hard this past week and seeing majority of our performance lead to season or personal best made this an exciting meet," said DSU Head Coach Chris Creal. "We had a lot of performances that were close to national qualifying and seeing our potential going into major competition these next few weeks make sure optimistic for what we are capable of accomplishing."
Lewis Dobitz and Mason Frank placed 4th and 5th in the 60 meter dash. Frank had a season best time of 7.30 during the prelims and teammate Mason Schram had a personal best of 7.57 in the event.
Dobitz placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 23.53. Teammates Cain Boschee placed 4th with a time of 23.65 and Schram had a personal best of 24.72.
Brandon Ruffin won the 400 meter dash with a personal best time of 50.27.
Newcomer, Austin Stradley, debut in the 600m dash, placing 2nd with a time of 1:28.06.
Trey Smollack had a career best in the 5k with a time of 17:21.05.
Jose Chorro won the 60m hurdles with a personal best time of 8.35. Teammate Jalen Hendrickson had a personal best in the event with a time of 9.62.
Men's 4x400m Relay (consisted of Lewis Dobitz, Brandon Ruffin, Josh Reed, Jose Chorro) won the event with a season best time of 3:24.69.
Josh Torgerson won the high jump by matching his career best with a 1.96m. Brandon Ruffin placed second with a mark of 1.91 meters while Beau Ackerman had a personal best with a mark of 1.66 meters.
Logan Gumke had a career best in the pole vault with a mark of 3.75 meters.
DSU went 2nd through 8th in the long jump. Ruffin lead with a personal best of 6.57 meters, finishing 2nd. Josh Reed 3rd with season best of 6.41 meters, Jay Liggins 4th with season best of 6.40 meters, Jose Chorro 5th, Tyler Quilling had personal best with mark of 6.27 meters, placing 6th. Torgerson finished 7th and Zach Girard with season best mark of 6.19 meters.
Jay Liggins had season best in the triple jump with a mark of 13.85 meters, placing 2nd. Tyler Quilling had a personal best of 13.14 meters, placing 4th while Torgerson finished 5th with mark of 12.97 meters.
Ty Malone had personal best of 14.04 meters in the weight throw, placing third overall. Malone also placed 2nd in the shot put.
