MADISON, S.D. - Dakota State (S.D.) will be host for this year's North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Outdoor Track & Field Conference Championships this week. The two-day conference meet begins on Thursday at 3 p.m. and continues on Friday with a full day of events starting at 10 a.m. The conference meet takes place at Trojan Field (1302 N. Washington Ave.).
Women's Preview: Jamestown (N.D.) currently leads the team standings after one event (heptathlon), scoring a total of 22 points on May 3-4 in Dickinson, N.D. Kaiann Arellano sparked the Jimmies to the team lead after earning her third consecutive heptathlon title last week with a conference meet record of 4,529 points. She also had been named to the NSAA Field Athlete-of-the-Meet for the last two years. Dickinson State (N.D.) is second with nine points. The Blue Hawks had won two conference titles in a span of three years (2015 and 2017). DiSU scored a conference meet record of 241 points to win the team title in Jamestown, N.D. last season. The Jimmies won the 2016 conference title in Forest City, Iowa.
Men's Preview: Dickinson State (N.D.) is a three-time North Star Outdoor Track & Field defending champion, including a conference meet record of 217 points in last year's conference meet in Jamestown, N.D. Dakota State (S.D.) was the team's runner-up in two times in the last three conference outdoor track meet. The Blue Hawks grabbed the early lead after one event, where Cleet Wrzesinski won the decathlon title with a conference meet record of 6,393 points.
All-Conference Honors: Top three in individual events and top relay teams will receive the North Star Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field conference medals at the meet. The top three individually and top two relay teams will be recognized as the North Star Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference. An official list of NSAA Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference athletes are scheduled to be release on Monday.
