Carter, Patrick to run at NAIA National Championship in Lawrence, KS

Dickinson, ND – The Blue Hawks will be represented by senior Denis Patrick and sophomoreDante Carter in the 58th annual NAIA National Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Nov. 23) at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, KS.  

"Both guys are ready to go and I'm excited to watch them race," head coach Mike Nekuda said. "I think both Denis and Dante have a great chance to succeed."

Carter, a Frontier All-Conference runner, finished second at the Frontier Conference Championship (Nov. 8) and finished first overall at the Mount Marty Invitational (Oct. 26).  This will be Dante's second appearance in the NAIA National Championship.  Carter finished 112thlast season.

Denis Patrick is also making a return appearance to the National Championship.  Patrick finished 88th in the 2012 NAIA National Championship.  Patrick also finished fifth at the Mount Marty Invitational.

According to an official NAIA release, the men's race (8-kilometer) is scheduled to began at 10:30 a.m.  The Championships Award Ceremony will be held at Abe and Jake's Landing—8 East 6th Street, Lawrence, Kan. 66044—and will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m.

There will be 321 student-athletes, from 96 schools, will compete for individual and team titles.  The 32-team field is comprised of 21 conference, independent and unaffiliated grouping champions; one conference, independent and unaffiliated grouping runner-up and ten at-large selections. Ninety-seven individual qualifiers, representing 64 institutions, will also compete in the race.
