Ernest Franssen Signs with Blue Hawk Cross Country Team

DICKINSON, ND- Dickinson State University Head Cross Country Coach, Ben Shroyer, is pleased to announce the signing of Ernest Franssen.

Franssen is from Arvada, Colorado and attends Pomona High School.

"Dickinson State University is a natural fit for me. It is diverse, the faculty is top quality, the academics are great and the campus is beautiful," said Franssen.

Ernest was a two time cross country 1st Team All-Conference member and earned the cross country Heart of the Panther Award in 2014.

Franssen also earned the cross country Dedicated to Excellence Award in 2013, was the cross country team Most Valuable Player in 2015 and was the track Rookie of the year in 2013.

“I am thrilled to have signed my first student-athlete from Colorado," stated Shroyer. "Ernest will bring a lot of grit and toughness to our team next fall! Colorado produces many great distance runners and Ernest is a product of the hard work and countless miles he has put in training at various altitudes! Ernest will make an immediate impact on our team next fall as we strive to repeat as conference champions. I am looking forward to seeing what he can do on the track this spring as well.”

Franssen was a three year Colorado High School State Cross Country Championships Qualifier with a highest finish of 32nd at the 2015 CHSAA 5A State Cross Country Championships in 17:03. He placed 27th at the 2015 Nike Cross Nationals Southwest Regional in Casa Grande, AZ.

His personal records include 5k (XC)- 16:23, 3200- 10:06 and 1600- 4:43.

Ernest plans to major in Computer Science and Information Technology at DSU. He is the son of Ernest Franssen and Kathie Franssen.
