Blue Hawks sweep Mayville in regular season finale

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks swept their regular season finale on Saturday (Apr. 26) Mayville State University.  Dickinson State took game one, 9-0, and game two 8-0.  The Blue Hawks finished the regular season with a 35-13 record.

Dickinson State put up crooked numbers against the Comets in the first three innings to win in five innings.  Regan Lawrence got the scoring started with a single to right, scoringAlex Vargas and Lindsay Sullivan.  Janell LaRont followed her with a single to left, driving home Brianna Grayson and Lawrence. 

In the second Rebecca Lopez scored on a single by Vargas.  Sullivan grounded out, allowingMonique Yslas to score.  Grayson roped a double, driving home Vargas and giving the Blue Hawks a 7-0 lead.

A one-out double by Lopez, in the top of the third, got the offense going again for Dickinson State.  Yslas put runners on the corners with a single.  Vargas followed her with a double to score Lopez and put a pair of runners in scoring position.  Sullivan laced a single to drive home Ylsas for the Blue Hawks' ninth run of the game.

Lawrence tossed a complete game shutout.  She went five innings, allowed just two hits, and struck out four hitters.  The Blue Hawks combined for 15 hits.  Both Yslas and Vargas went 3-for-3, with two runs scored.  Vargas, Sullivan, Lawrence, and LaRont all drove in a pair of runs.  Grayson also tallied a RBI.

After putting up a run in both the first and second innings to start game two, the Blue Hawks' offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

McKenzie Kenobbie led off the fifth with a walk and stole second.  Lopez roped a double to score the freshman outfielder.  A sacrifice bunt advanced Lopez to third.  An error allowed Vargas to reach base and allowed Lopez to score.  Sullivan doubled to score Vargas, before being driven in two batters later by LaRont's double.  Grayson followed LaRont with a double of her own to score Lawrence and LaRont.

Tiffany Morgan got the start and threw 4.2 innings.  She allowed four hits and struck out on hitter.  Vargas tallied a hit, a run scored, and two runs driven in.  Grayson went 1-for-1 with two RBIs.  LaRont and Sullivan both picked up a pair of hits, scored twice, and drove one run in. Seven different Blue Hawks scored at least once. 

The Blue Hawks will prepare for post-season play, which is set to begin on May 2.
