Blue Hawks split final games in Tucson

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks split their final two games in Tucson on Saturday (Mar. 22) to Oklahoma Baptist and Valley City State.  Dickinson State fell to Oklahoma Baptist, 10-4, and defeated Valley City State, 3-0.  The Blue Hawks are 13-7 overall on the season.

In the first game Oklahoma Baptist pushed across runs in the first, fifth, and sixth innings.  Raeven Clark had four hits and scored twice.  Annie Combs, Clark and LeNae Sanchez each had a run batted in.  Dara Gray had two hits, a run scored, and drove in five runs. 

The Blue Hawks scored once in four consecutive innings.  Alex Vargas had two hits and scored a run.  Brianna Grays notched two hits, scored a run, and drove a run in.  Rebecca Lopez notched two hits and drove in a run.  Justeena Gutierrez had a hit and one run batted in.  Janell LaRont had a hit and scored a run.  Regan Lawrence got the start for Dickinson State.  She allowed seven runs, none earned, over 4.2 innings. 

In game two LaRont went the distance and allowed just three hits.  She also struck out five hitters.

The Blue Hawks opened the scoring in the third inning.  Kailey Olcott singled and later stole second.  She would advance to third on a single by LaRont and score on a ground out byMonique Yslas.

Dickinson State put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Gutierrez singled with one out and LaRont followed that with a single of her own.  Yslas then roped a double to left that scored both runners and gave the Blue Hawks a 3-0 lead. 

LaRont not only threw a shutout, but went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a run.  Yslas had one hit and drove three runs in.  Olcott had two hits and scored a run.  Vargas, Lopez, and Gutierrez each added a hit of their own.           

Dickinson State will be back on the field March 28 when they travel to Northwestern for a doubleheader.
