Blue Hawks down Argos, 3-0, to advance to championship

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Blue Hawks (No. 1 seed) shut out Great Falls (No. 4 seed) on Saturday (May 3), 3-0, to advance to the NAIA Unaffiliated North Star Athletic Association/Frontier Softball Conference Tournament Championship game and push the winning streak to 21.  Dickinson State is now 3-0 in the tournament and 38-13 on the season.

Regan Lawrence and Keeley Van Blaricom kept both offenses quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Dickinson State opened the scoring. 

The Argos stranded four runners through the course of the game, as Lawrence came up big in tight situations for Dickinson State. 

Alex Vargas swatted a solo homerun on the first offering she saw in the fourth to give the Blue Hawks a 1-0 advantage. 

In the bottom of the sixth the Blue Hawks scored again.  Lindsay Sullivan singled on a line drive that scored both Rebecca Lopez and Vargas. 

Lawrence allowed just three hits and struck out eight hitters.  Vargas, Sullivan, andKailey Olcott each had hits for the Blue Hawks.  Sullivan drove in a pair, while Vargas plated one.  Vargas scored two runs and Lopez came around to score once.

In a rematch of last year's championship, Dickinson State will play Great Falls again on Sunday (May 4) in the championship game at 1 p.m.  The Argos are 3-1 in the tournament with wins over Jamestown, Valley City, and Dakota State.
