Lawrence strong in relief as Blue Hawks take game two, 8-5

SPEARFISH, S.D.  – The Blue Hawks split a non-conference doubleheader against Black Hills State University.   In the first game a walk-off homerun propelled Black Hills over Dickinson State, 6-5.  The Blue Hawks rallied back in the second game, en route to an 8-5 victory. The Blue Hawks are now 19-12 on the season.

In game one the Blue Hawks struck first in the top of the first.  Lindsey Sullivan singled to score a pair of runs and give Dickinson State a 2-0 lead. 

The Yellow Jackets got one back in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Both offenses were quiet, until Lindsey Sullivan ripped a three-run homerun to bring the Blue Hawks' lead to 5-1.

In the bottom of the sixth Black Hills picked up two runs to cut the deficit to 5-3.  Then, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Black Hills struck again.  Katie Campo swatted a three-run walk-off homerun with two outs off of McKenna Kostelecky to give Black Hills a 6-5 victory.

Regan Lawrence got the start and went five innings, scattering three runs on four hits.  She struck out three hitters.  Rebecca Lopez picked up two hits and scored a run.  Brianna Graysonwent 1-for-3 and socred a pair of runs.  Sullivan finished 2-for-2, with a three-run bomb, and all five runs batted in.

In the second game both offense started early. 

The Blue Hawks scored twice in the first to stake out a 2-0 lead.  In the second they would add one, as would Black Hills.  In the third Dickinson State tallied twice to gain a 5-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the third the Yellow Jackets rallied, scoring three runs, to cut the deficit to 5-4 and chase Tiffany Morgan from the game.  Regan Lawrence came on in relief to quell the storm.

Both the Blue Hawks and Yellow Jackets would score once in the fourth, pushing the score to 6-5.  From there the Blue Hawks picked up runs in the fifth and seventh, to finish with a 8-5 margin.

Black Hills' pitcher Kaitlin Farrar pitched both games and threw upwards of 270 pitches for the Yellow Jackets.

Lopez went 2-for-5 in game two, scoring twice, and tallying two RBIs.  Alex Vargas had a hit, a run scored, and a run driven in.  Grayson finished 2-for-4, with a run scored and a RBI. Kailey Olcott went 2-for-2, scored a trio of times, and drove in a pair.  Lawrence notched the win, going five innings and allowing just one run on four hits.

The Blue Hawks will be back in action on April 12, when they play a doubleheader in Maidson, S.D. against Dakota State University.
