Blue Hawks eliminate Jimmies with 6-2 victory

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Blue Hawks (No. 1 seed) picked up their second victory of the NAIA Unaffiliated North Star Athletic Association/Frontier Softball Conference Tournament on Friday (May 2) over Jamestown (No. 3 seed), 6-2.  The win makes it 20 straight for the Blue Hawks.  Dickinson State is now 2-0 in the tournament and 37-13 overall.  Jamestown has been eliminated from play.

The Jimmies scored once in the first inning on an error, but the lead would not last long.

Alex Vargas singled home Rebecca Lopez with one out in the bottom of the first to tie the game.  Lindsay Sullivan laced a single to left, scoring Lopez and giving the Blue Hawks a 2-1 advantage.

A big four-run bottom of the fourth gave the Blue Hawks an even bigger lead.  Kailey Olcottblasted a solo shot with one out.  Lopez doubled into the right-center field gap to score bothMcKenzie Kenobbie and Justeena Gutierrez, while Lopez advanced to third on the throw home.  Monique Yslas hit a sacrifice fly to score Lopez from third and pull ahead 6-1.

The Jimmies pushed across one in the top of the seventh, but they would fall short and were eliminated from further tournament play.

Tiffany Morgan tossed a complete game for Dickinson State.  She allowed nine hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out two hitters.  Lopez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.  She also drove in a pair.  Yslas, Vargas, Sullivan, and Olcott each had a RBI.  Olcott's RBI came on a solo homerun.  The Blue Hawks finished with nine hits.

Dickinson State will now play the winner of Valley City (No. 2 seed) and Great Falls (No. 4 seed) on Saturday (May 3) at 11 a.m.
