Lawrence baffles Trojans en route to 9-0 victory

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Dickinson State (No. 1 seed) defeated Dakota State (No. 6 seed) 9-0 on Friday (May 2) to advance to the in the winner's bracket of the NAIA Unaffiliated North Star Athletic Association/Frontier Softball Conference Tournament. The Blue Hawks are now 1-0 in the tournament and 36-13 overall.

Regan Lawrence made the Trojan hitters look foolish, allowing just one hit in the fifth inning, and striking out four. 

The Blue Hawks got the offense going in the first inning.  Brianna Grayson laced a single to right, scoring Rebecca Lopez and Alex Vargas for a 2-0 lead.

In the second the Blue Hawks' offense exploded for seven runs.  Kailey Olcott led off with a double and was driven in two batters later on Lopez's double.  Lopez also drove homeJusteena Gutierrez.  Lopez then scored on a stolen base.  Monique Yslas reached third on a dropped third strike and scored when Lindsay Sullivan singled to right.  Grayson picked up another RBI with a double, scoring Sullivan.  Janell LaRont singled home pinch runner Sam Bessey.  LaRont would later score on an error by second baseman Katie Slibowski, giving Dickinson State a 9-0 advantage.

Slibowski started in the circle for Dakota State and labored.  She gave up all nine runs on seven hits.

Grayson had three RBIs for the Blue Hawks, as well as two hits.  Lopez finished 1-for-3, with two runs scored and two driven in.  Sullivan and LaRont each had a RBI.

The Blue Hawks will now play Jamestown on Friday (May 2) at 2:15 p.m.  The Jimmies are 0-1 in the tournament and 21-22 overall.
