ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Blue Hawks took both games of their doubleheader against Presentation College on Sunday (Mar. 30). Dickinson State routed the Saints in both games 12-3 and 16-2. The Blue Hawks are now 15-10 overall and 2-0 in North Star matchups.
In game one Regan Lawrence got the ball for Dickinson State. She allowed three runs, on six hits, and struck out 14 hitters. Both Danielle Neumann and Jenae Pantle gave up six runs for Presentation.
The Blue Hawks put up one run in the first inning on a single by Lawrence, which scoredBrianna Grayson.
In the top of the sixth inning the Blue Hawks plated a pair on a double by Justeena Gutierrez to give the Blue Hawks a 6-3 lead.
Dickinson State's offense exploded in the top of the seventh for six runs. Lindsey Sullivansingled to score two runs, and then advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Lawrence singled to plate Sam Bessey, who pinch ran for Sullivan. Guiterrez would later single to score both Lawrence and Olcott. A double by Lopez put runners on second and third. Yslas grounded out, but it allowed Gutierrez to score and give the Blue Hawks a 12-3 lead.
Lopez had a pair of hits and a run batted in. Yslas notched a hit, scored a run, and drove one in. Grayson picked up a pair of hits, while scoring a run. Sullivan had one hit and two runs driven in. Lawrence went 3-for-4, scored twice, and drove in a pair. Morgan had a hit, a RBI, and scored a run. Olcott found her way across the plate a trio of times. Gutierrez notched two hits, scored a run, and plated four.
Morgan got the call in game two and allowed just two runs on 10 hits, in five innings. She struck out three hitters. Presentation starter Karyssa Marbet was lit up for 16 runs on 14 hits. Only 10 runs were earned.
The Blue Hawks started early. They put up a crooked six runs in the first inning. Lawrence singled to score Grayson and the game's first run. Morgan reached on an error by Sydney Larson, which also scored Lindsey Sullivan. Olcott stepped to the plate with two runners on and two outs. She ripped the first pitch she saw from Marbet for a three-run blast to center field, her first of the season.
In the second inning the Blue Hawks struck again. Lawrence poked another single and drove home Vargas for her second RBI. Morgan then singled to score Sullivan from third.
Dickinson State pushed across two more runs in the third inning. Yslas drew a walk to put a runner on for Grayson. Grayson took the first pitch she saw and turned on it, driving it over the left-center field fence.
The fourth inning was not kind to Presentation. Olcott roped a double to scoreJenifer Huebner, who ran for Lawrence. Justeena Gutierrez then smoked a double left-center that brought home both Morgan and Olcott, giving the Blue Hawks a 13-2 lead. The next batter,Rebecca Lopez, took an offering deep to left-center field for her first homerun of the season and a 15-2 lead. Grayson then doubled and was followed by a single from Vargas. Pinch hitterTaylor Ursel singled to center scoring Grayson to give Dickinson State a 16-2 advantage.
Grayson had three hits, scored three times, and had two RBIs. Lopez drove in a pair. Yslas scored twice. Morgan drove in a pair and scored twice. Olcott drove in four runs and scored a pair, as well as hitting her first collegiate homerun.
The Blue Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 2) when they host the University of Jamestown for a North Star doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
