DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks were swept by Morningside College on Saturday (Mar. 29). Game one went to 12 innings and finished 2-1. Dickinson State fell in game two 4-3.
The Blue Hawks opened the scoring in the second when Brianna Grayson tripled to right field. Rebecca Lopez then hit a ground ball and Grayson raced home. The throw was late and Grayson scored the game's first run.
The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh inning.
A one out single by Landgren was followed by a single from Daas and a throwing error put runners on second and third. Neumann hit a sacrifice fly that scored Landgren and tied the game.
Both offenses were fairly quiet in the first few extra innings, stranding only a few runners total.
In the bottom of the twelfth inning Morningside struck. Johnson reached on an error with two outs. Koch singled to center and put runners on the corners. Anderson then hit a walk-off single, giving Morningside a 2-1 victory.
The Blue Hawks scored first in game two. Kenobbie singled and advanced to second on an error. After a sacrifice bunt by Monique Yslas, Kenobbie was driven in on a sac-fly by Grayson.
Morningside put up two in the bottom half of the inning. The first run was on a single by Neumann that scored Daas. The second came on a double by Steffen that scored Neumann.
In the fourth inning the Blue Hawks drove home a pair of runs. Tiffany Morgan hit a two-RBI double to give Dickinson State a 3-1 lead.
Morningside would not quit. They once again put up runs in the final frame. Hirt walked and pinch runner Childress moved to second on a bunt. Neumann singled, driving in Childress for the first run. Landren came on to run and advanced to second on a sacrifice. Steffen singled to center to drive home the winning run, 4-3.
Lawrence was charged with the loss. She went two innings in relief and allowed two runs on two hits. Kenobbie had one hit and scored a run. Grayson had one hit and drove in a run. Morgan went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair.
The Blue Hawks will be back on the field Sunday (Mar. 30) when they play Presentation College in a North Star doubleheader.
