Softball Adds Three to Program

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State Head Softball Coach Kristen Fleury is excited to announce three signings for the Blue Hawk softball team.

Abi Brooks is a native of Rocklin, California and attended Whitney High School.  Brooks is a pitcher and first baseman.

"We are excited to have a student athlete like Abi join our program," Fleury said.  "Throughout the entire recruiting process she proved that she is committed to both her academics and athletics. Not only is Abi an effective pitcher who hits her spots and keeps batters off balance but she can also swing it at the plate."

The Rocklin native plans to major in Nursing.

"I chose Dickinson State because when I toured DSU I could see myself being there for the next four years," Brooks said.  "I loved the atmosphere, from the first day on my official visit, I felt like everyone one was big family at Dickinson State and I really liked that. I'm excited for next year and can't wait to join the DSU family."

Samantha Hardwick is an outfielder from West Covina, California where she attended Covina High School.

"Samantha is a true lefty slapper that is a triple threat at the plate," Fleury said.  "She has tremendous speed and can do it all from the left side of the plate. She fits in perfectly with our style of softball and will be an instant impact. We are excited for her to be part of our program."

Hardwick plans to major in Health Science.

McKenzie Bassett is a third baseman from Dawson Community College.

"McKenzie brings a passion and desire to the field every day," Fleury said.  Her future is a priority and she is committed to getting there. She has proven herself at Dawson Community College both offensively and defensively. As a freshman at Dawson Community College she hit .442 with 7 homeruns and 41 RBI's. She is a difference maker at the plate and is a great addition to our program."

Bassett plans to major in Teacher Education.

"I chose Dickinson State because the teaching program will help me get to where I need to go and my ultimate goal is to be a positive role model to kids on and off the field," Bassett said.  "I chose Blue Hawk softball, not only because of the history of winning that the softball team has, but Coach Fleury's style of coaching. She is intense and disciplined and that is exactly what I need to further my softball career!"

Dickinson State will kick off the 2015 season February 27 at York College.
