Dickinson, ND- On Saturday March 7th the Dickinson State University Softball (2-0,0-0) team opened its season at home with two wins over NSAA Conference opponent Valley City State (0-2,0-0) in a non-conference match up. Despite giving up the long ball and defensive errors, the Blue Hawks offense lead them over the Vikings.
The Blue Hawks got ahead early in game one with putting up seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. Morgan Glowa started the scoring surge when she dropped a bunt down for a base hit with one out and no one on. McKenzie Kenobbie followed in her footsteps and was able to reach base safely via the bunt putting runners on 1st and 2nd with Rebecca Lopez up. Lopez singled to right field to put the Hawks on the board 1st, scoring Glowa and advancing Kenobbie to 3rd. Senior Janell LaRont executed the suicide squeeze to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. The inning ended with a line out double play to left field but not after the Hawks were able to score 7 runs with one out.
Regan Lawrence(1-0) went the distance on the mound and got the W in the victory. She threw 7.0 innings giving up 7 hits and 2 earned runs while walking one 1 and striking out 9.
The Hawks offense was lead by Morgan Glowa who was 2-3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI. Alex Vargas went 2-3 as well with a walk. The Hawks finished game one with 10 runs on 9 hits and 1 Valley City State error.
