Blue Hawk Softball Fall to Owls in First Game of World Series

SIOUX CITY, IA- (Bracket) The Dickinson State University Softball team fell to the Oregon Institute of Technology Owls 7-5 in the opening game of the 2015 NAIA Softball World Series.

The Owls scored on run in the top of the first inning after a two out single by Tara Moates scored Katie Virtue from second base. In the bottom of the second inning, the Owls scored four runs after McKenzie Shrum had a bases clearing 3 RBI double followed by a RBI single by Moates that scored Shrum.

The Blue Hawks plated on run in the bottom of the second when Morgan Glowa singled to center, scoring Regan Lawrence putting the Blue Hawks down 5-2 after two innings. In the bottom of the third, the Blue Hawks scored another run when a pass ball scored McKenzie Kenobbie.

The Owls struck back in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs, after a two out rally led by an RBI single by Sadie Birch scored Tasha Silvius followed by an RBI double by Ariel Fulkerson.

Janell LaRont led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homerun cutting the deficit to 7-3. Claudia Torres then singled followed by a single by Brianna Grayson. Monique Yslas then doubled to left scoring pinch runner Brooke Schmitt and Grayson putting the Blue Hawks down 7-5 after five innings.

Neither team would score the rest of the game leading to the Blue Hawks falling 7-5.

The Blue Hawks now enter the losers bracket and will face either Lindsey Wilson (KY) or Mobile (AL) at 12:00 Mountain Daylight Time on Saturday.
