Lawrence and Lopez Earn NSAA Conference Weekly Awards

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its final edition of the Softball Players-of-the-Week honors, the conference office announced Monday.  Dickinson State (N.D.) swept the weekly honors as Rebecca Lopez was selected as Player-of-the-Week, while Regan Lawrence was tabbed as Pitcher-of-the-Week.

Rebecca Lopez – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'6" – Junior – First Base – San Jose, Calif. – Lopez recorded a batting average of .450 and a slugging percentage of .700 as Dickinson State (N.D.) went 5-1 record in the NSAA Softball Conference Tournament.  After the Blue Hawks suffered their first loss of the tournament, Lopez produced three multi-hit games and collected seven runs batted in as Dickinson State rallied back to claim the 2015 NSAA Softball Tournament Champion.  During the tournament, she was 9-of-20 at the plate, scored four times and reached on base by a walk five times.  She also had a double, two triples, nine RBIs and swiped two bases.

Regan Lawrence – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'5" – Senior – Pitcher – Stonewall, Manitoba – Lawrence earned the pitching weekly honor for the second straight week as Dickinson State (N.D.) rallied back to win all four elimination games, claiming their first-ever NSAA Softball Conference Tournament title.  She was 5-0 record in the tournament, including winning all four elimination games.  During the conference tournament, Lawrence posted an earned run average (ERA) of 2.84 in 32 innings, allowed 16 runs (3 unearned) on 37 hits (6.2 hits per game).  She struck out 24 total batters and issued 11 walks.

No. 2 seed Dickinson State (N.D.) came from the loser's bracket to win their first-ever NSAA Softball Conference Tournament Championships, defeating the top-seeded Jamestown (N.D.) twice in the championship game.  The Blue Hawks await to hear from the NAIA national office to hear where they will be playing at in the NAIA Softball National Tournament Opening Round, which is held at ten different sites announced by the NAIA.  The national opening round will be held on May 11-13, with each site's opening round winners advancing to the NAIA Softball World Series in Sioux City, Iowa on May 22-28.
