#17 Blue Hawks Open 2016 NSAA Conference Season 3-1

MADISON, SD- The Dickinson State University Softball team defeated Bellevue University, 1-0, and Dakota State University, 12-1, on Monday before losing to Bellevue University, 7-3, and beating Dakota State University, 8-5, on Tuesday.

Game 1: DSU 1, BU 0

The only scoring in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Blue Hawks plated one run after a lead-off triple by Alex Vargas followed by an RBI single by Brianna Grayson.

The Blue Hawks recorded five hits in the win with McKenzie Kenobbie leading the way going 2-4. Vargas was 1-3 with a triple, Monique Yslas was 1-3 and Grayson was 1-3 with an RBI.

Alexzandria Watson earned the win for the Blue Hawks going seven innings allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.

Game 2: DiSU 12, DaSU 1

The Blue Hawks took the lead in the third inning by scoring two runs then added to their lead by scoring five runs in the fifth inning. Dakota State answered back scoring on run in the bottom of the fifth. The Blue Hawks added another run in the sixth then four runs in the seventh to win the game 12-1.

The Blue Hawks recorded 18 hits in the win and were led by Alex Vargas who was 4-5 with a triple and an RBI. Whitney Mesi was 2-3 with an RBI while McKennzie Bassett was also 2-3 with two RBI's. Shannen Donnelly was 2-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI's. KcKenzie Knobbie was 2-5, Monique Yslas was 2-5 with a double and Brianna Grayson was 2-5 with three RBI's. Morgan Glowa was 1-3 with a triple and two RBI's while Brenda Cruz added a single in the win.

Abigail Brooks picked up the win going seven innings allowing one run (0 earned) on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Game 3: BU 7, DSU 3

The Blue Hawks got on the board first in the second inning when they plated two runs and added another in the fourth. Bellevue then put up a four spot in the top of the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh to down the Blue Hawks 7-3.

Shannen Donnelly was 1-2 with an RBI while Alex Vargas was 1-3 with a triple and Whittney Mesi was 1-3. McKennzie Bassett was 1-3 with a triple and McKenzie Kenobbie was 1-4 with a double and two RBI's.

Amanda Flores took the loss going 4.1 innings allowing four runs (3 earned) on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Abi Brooks tossed an inning allowing one run on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Alex Watson also threw one inning allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout. Rayleen Ortiz threw 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs on one hit.

Game 4: DiSU 8, DaSU 5

The Blue Hawks scored two runs in the second, two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. Dakota State scored on run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh but fell to the Blue Hawks 8-5.

McKenzie Knobbie led the Blue Hawks going 4-4. McKenna Kostelecky was 2-3 with a homerun and three RBI's while Monique Yslas was also 2-3 with a double and two RBI's. Whitney Mesi finished the game 2-3 while Alex Vargas was 1-4 with a double and an RBI, Brianna Grayson was 1-4, Shannen Donnelly was 1-4 and Morgan Glowa was 1-3 with a triple and two RBI's.

Abi Brooks earned the win going six innings allowing five runs on 13 hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Amanda Flores tossed one inning allowing no runs on no hits.

The Blue Hawks are now 20-7 overall and 3-1 in NSAA play. Dickinson State will continue NSAA play this coming weekend when they host Presentation College on Saturday at 1:00 PM (MDT) and 3:00 PM (MDT) then again on Sunday with game one beginning at 12:00 PM (MDT) and game two at 2:00 PM (MDT).
