DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Softball team won all four NSAA games this weekend over the Presentation College Saints.
Game 1: DSU 5, PC 4
The Saints got on the board first after scoring two runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead after three innings. The Blue Hawks plated two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth before winning the game on a walk-off RBI hit by Shannen Donnelly to give the Blue Hawks a 5-4 win.
McKennzie Bassett led the Blue Hawks going 3-3 with a double. Alex Vargas was 2-3 with a double while Brenda Cruz was also 2-3. Morgan Glowa went 2-3 with two doubles and four RBI's. Monique Yslas added a double while Donnelly recorded a hit and an RBI.
Abigail Brooks picked up the win throwing four innings in relief allowing one hit and four strikeouts. Alexzandria Watson started the game going three innings allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Game 2: DSU 12, PC 7
The Blue Hawks plated three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second before the Saints scored five runs in the third to tie the game at five. DSU answered back scoring two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. PC plated two more runs in the sixth while the Blue Hawks added another run in the sixth to win the game 12-7.
Vargas led the Blue Hawks going 4-5 with two homeruns and four RBI's. Brianna Grayson was also 4-5 with two doubles and two RBI's. Yslas was 3-5 with a double and aa RBI while McKenzie Kenobbie was 2-4. McKenna Kostelecky added a homerun and two RBI's while Donnelly added a hit and an RBI.
Amanda Flores picked up the win after throwing 2.2 innings in relief allowing two runs on four hits with two walks. Watson threw 1.2 innings allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Brooks started the game going 2.2 innings allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Game 3: DSU 4, PC 1
The Blue Hawks got on the board first in the bottom of the first with one run but the Saints answered back scoring one in the second. DSU would score one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take the 4-1 win.
Vargas led the Blue Hawks going 3-3 with a homerun, a double and two RBI's. Donnelly added a homerun and an RBI while Grayson recorded an RBI double and Yslas added a double in the win.
Brooks earned the win going five innings allowing one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Watson threw two innings in relief allowing no runs on no hits with a strikeout to pick up the save.
Game 4: DSU 12, PC 3
DSU took an early lead after scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. PC would plated one run in the second but the Blue Hawks answered back scoring a run in the bottom of the second and five in the bottom of the fourth. The Saints would score two in the fifth but the Blue Hawks plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth to win by the mercy rule, 12-3.
Vargas continued her great weekend going 2-2 in the final game with a homerun, a double and three RBI's. Kostelecky was a perfect 3-3 with three RBI's, Kenobbie was 3-3 and Grayson was also 3-3 with an RBI. Donnelly added two doubles with three RBI's while Bassett added a double. Yslas added a hit while Whitney Mesi added a hit and an RBI.
Watson picked up the win going five innings allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
Dickinson State is now 24-7 overall and 7-1 in NSAA play. The Blue Hawks will host the Valley City State University Vikings on April 9th and 10th. The Vikings are currently in first place in the NSAA with a 6-0 NSAA record and 22-5 overall record. The Blue Hawks and the Vikings will play two games each day with game one beginning at 1:00 PM (MDT).
