DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Softball team defeated the Valley City State University Vikings in both games on Saturday by scores of 8-6 and 4-3. Sunday's games were canceled due to weather and will be re-scheduled at a later date.
Game 1: DSU 8, VCSU 6
The Blue Hawks plated two runs in the bottom of the first, four runs in the bottom of the third and one run in the bottom of the fourth before the Vikings put up a six spot in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 7-6. DSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to win the NSAA game 8-6.
McKennzie Bassett led the Blue Hawks going 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Brenda Cruz was 2-3 with an RBI. Shannen Donnelly was 1-3 with a run scored and three RBI's. Monique Yslas added a hit and two runs scored, Alex Vargas had a hit and three runs scored with an RBI while Brianna Grayson added a hit and an RBI. McKenna Kostelecky also recorded a hit and an RBI in the win.
Alexzandria Watson picked up the win going 4.2 innings allowing six runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Abigail Brooks came in to throw 2.1 innings allowing no runs on one hit with a strikeout to earn the save.
Game 2: DSU 4, VCSU 3
The Vikings got on the board first in the top of the third when they scored a run but the Blue Hawks answered back with a run in the bottom. Valley City then scored another run in the top of the fourth and Dickinson State would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth. VCSU would take the lead in the top of the seventh but the Blue Hawks would rally to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh with no outs on a Grayson hard hit ball to the right side, giving DSU the walk-off win.
Alex Watson picked up the win throwing the seventh inning allowing no runs on two hits. Brooks started the game going 4 innings allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Amanda Flores tossed two innings allowing on run on no hits with two walks and a strikeout.

The Blue Hawks are now 26-7 overall and 9-1 in NSAA play. Dickinson State will host Black Hills State on Tuesday at 2:00 and 4:00 PM (MDT) before heading to Mayville State University this weekend to face off with the Comets in NSAA play.
