BISMARCK, ND- The Dickinson State University Softball team beat the University of Mary in both games of a double-header on Thursday.
Game 1: DSU 7, UM 6
Dickinson State got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first but U-Mary answered with one run in the bottom. DSU added another run in the top of the second and another in the top of the fourth. U-Mary would then plate five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. The Blue Hawks would answer with two in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the seventh to secure the 7-6 win.
Monique Yslas would lead the Blue Hawk hitters going 2-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI while Alex Vargas was also 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. McKenna Kostelecky added a double with two RBI's and Samantha Hardwick was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Brianna Grayson and McKennzie Bassett each recorded doubles in the game. McKenzie Kenobbie added a hit and an RBI while Shannen Donnelly also had a hit and an run scored.
Alexzandria Watson picked up the win in relief going 3.1 innings allowing no runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Amanda Flores started the game going 3.2 innings allowing six runs (1 earned) on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Game 2: DSU 6, UM 2
Dickinson State exploded for five unearned runs in the top of the second after two U-Mary errors. U-Mary would plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth while the Blue Hawks would add a run in the top of the seventh to win the second game and sweep the day.
Vargas led the Blue Hawks going 3-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI's. Kenobbie was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Yslas, Grayson, Donnelly and Whitney Mesi all recorded a hit in the win.
Abigail Brooks earned the win going 4.1 innings allowing two runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Watson came in to pick up the save going 2.2 innings allowing no runs on one hit with four strikeouts.
The Blue Hawks are now 32-7 overall and 13-1 in NSAA play.
Dickinson State returns to the field on Saturday when they travel to the University of Jamestown for a NSAA double-header against the Jimmies. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM (MDT). Day two of the four game series was scheduled for Sunday in Dickinson but with 100% chance of rain, the games have been re-scheduled for Thursday, April 28th with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM (MDT) at the North Softball Complex in Dickinson.
