KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Alexzandria Watson of Dickinson State (S.D.) has been named the NAIA National Softball Pitcher of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Watson was selected based on her performances from April 18 - 24, and was chosen out of a pool of conference, Association of Independent Institutions and unaffiliated group winners. The final national awards will be announced on May 3.
Watson pitched 24 innings on the week, allowing just eight hits, no walks and did not surrender a run. She picked up three wins and two saves to help the 36-7 Blue Hawks to a 5-0 week.
Alex logged six innings pitched, giving up three hits and striking out 12 in an 8-0 win over Mayville State (N.D.) on April 18 and recorded a one-hit shutout over 11 innings, striking out 14 batters in a 2-0 victory over Jamestown (N.D.) on April 23.
She leads the NAIA in saves with six and ranks fourth in the NAIA in walks allowed per nine innings (0.64).
This is Watson's first career national pitcher of the week award.
