LA CROSSE, WI- The Dickinson State University Softball team defeated Viterbo, 14-3, Waldorf, 11-1, on Saturday and Viterbo, 4-2, on Sunday before losing to Waldorf, 6-5.
Game 1: DSU 14, VU 3
Dickinson State put up seven runs in the top of the first inning with Viterbo answering with one in the bottom. DSU would score a run in the second and two in the third before VU added another run in the third. Both teams plated a runner in the fourth and the Blue Hawks added three in the fifth to win 14-3.
Alex Vargas led the Blue Hawk hitters going 3-4 with a homerun, three runs scored and three RBI's. Morgan Glowa was 2-3 with a double, a runs scored and an RBI. McKenzie Kenobbie was 2-4 with two runs scored and Monique Yslas was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. McKenna Kostelecky was 1-2 with two RBI's while McKennzie Bassett, Shannen Donnelly and Samantha Bessey each recorded a hit and an RBI in the win.
Amanda Flores picked up the win going three innings allowing two runs (1 earned) on five hits with two walks and a strikeout. Abigail Brooks tossed two innings in relief allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Game 2: DSU 11, WC 1
The Blue Hawks scored in every inning of their game against Waldorf College. DSU scored two in the first, four in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. Waldorf was only able to score in the bottom of the fifth.
Brianna Grayson led the Blue Hawk hitters going 3-3 with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and three RBI's. Kenobbie was 3-4 with a triple and two runs scored while Glowa was also 2-3 with a triple, a run scored an and RBI. Kostelecky was 2-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI's and Samantha Hardwick was 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Yslas, Vargas, Bassett and Donnelly each added a hit in the win.
Alexzandria Watson picked up the win going five innings allowing one run on four hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
Game 3: WC 6, DSU 5
Waldorf scored a run in the first and two in the third before DSU tied the game in the third with three runs. WC would take the lead in the fifth with one run only to see DSU take the lead back in the bottom with two runs. Waldorf would tie the game in the sixth with a run then take the lead and the win with a run in the seventh.
Grayson would lead the Blue Hawks at the plate going 3-4 with a double and a run scored. Vargas and Bassett were both 2-4 with a homerun and Bassett collected three RBI's. Kostelecky, Donnelly, Rayleen Ortiz and Hardwick all recorded a hit in the loss.
Watson took the loss in relief going 4.2 innings allowing three runs (2 earned) on five hits with 10 strikeouts. Flores started the game going 2.1 innings allowing three runs (1 earned) on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Game 4: DSU 4, VU 2
Dickinson State would plate two runs in the first while Viterbo tied the game in the third with two runs. The Blue Hawks would then score two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 4-2 win over Viterbo.
Ortiz led the Blue Hawk hitters going 2-3 with a homerun, a run scored and two RBI's while Kenobbie was 2-4 with a run scored. Grayson and Kostelecky each had a hit and an RBI. Yslas, Vargas and Glowa each recorded a hit in the win.
Watson earned the win in relief going four innings allowing no runs on one hit with eight strikeouts. Brooks started the game going three innings allowing two runs on three hits with two walks.
The Blue Hawks finish their 2016 regular season 40-9 overall and 19-3 in NSAA play.
Dickinson State will be the #1 seed in the 2016 NSAA Conference Tournament. Tournament information will be posted later this week.
