Vargas and Watson tab All-American Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2016 Softball All-America teams, selected by the NAIA All-America committee.

Senior 2nd basemen Alex Vargas was selected 1st team NAIA ALL- American. Vargas finished the 2016 season with a .474 batting average, 21 doubles, 3 triples, 15 homeruns, 76 RBI's, 23 base on balls and a .874 slugging percentage. Along with 1st team all-american, Vargas was the North Star Most Valuable Player.

Sophmore pitcher Alexzandria Watson was selected as a 2016 honorable-mention ALL-American. Watson helped guide the 2016 Blue Hawks to a 46-12 overall record. On the mound Watson finished the season with a 26-4 record, 1.39 ERA in 191 innings pitched and 253 strike outs. Opposing hitters had a .194 batting average against her.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Wednesday that 397 softball student-athletes have been named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes. Representing Dickinson State University Softball are Samantha Bessey and McKenzie Kenobbie.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
