ABERDEEN, SD- The Dickinson State University Softball team started their 2017 season on Saturday and Sunday in the Aberdeen Dome, going 1-3.
Game 1: UJ 7, DSU 1
Jamestown got on the board first scoring one run in each of the first three innings while Dickinson State scored their only run of the game in the fourth. UJ would add a run in the fifth and three in the seventh to win 7-1.
Mariah Gamboa and Hanna Andrysiak led the Blue Hawks with 2 hits each. Andrysiak also recorded a double. Kayla Stephens, Brianna Grayson, Rachael Dillon and McKennzie Bassett all recorded a hit in the loss. Dillon recorded the only RBI in the game for DSU.
Game 2: CSM 13, DSU 5
DSU plated three runs in the top of the first but College of Saint Mary's followed with five runs in the bottom. DSU added two in the top of the second while CSM added one in the bottom. CSM would then add a run in the fourth and three in the fifth and six innings to defeat the Blue Hawks 13-5.
Gamboa and Stephens would each finish with two hits while McKenzie Kenobbie, Grayson, Dillon, McKenna Kostelecky, Kelsey Craig and Brenda Cruz all added a hit in the loss. Stephens finished with two doubles while Grayson and Kostelecky each had a double. Stephens and Grayson recorded two RBI's each while Kostelecky finished with an RBI.
Brooks took the loss going 4.2 innings allowing 5 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits with a strikeout after Creech started the game going 1/3 of an inning allowing 5 runs on three hits with a walk. Rayleen Ortiz tossed 2/3 of an inning allowing 3 runs on one hit with 3 walks.
Game 3: DSU 6, DWU 3
Dickinson State plated a run in the first and five in the fifth while Dakota Wesleyan scored two in the fifth and one in the seventh to earn DSU their first win of the season.
Kennobbie and Dillon led the Blue Hawks with 2 hits each while Stephens, Bassett, Kostelecky and Brooks all recorded a hit in the win. Brooks and Kennobbie each had a double and Dillon had a triple. Stephens and Dillon each recorded 2 RBI's while Grayson finished with one.
Creech picked up the win going 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts. Brooks picked up the save going 2.1 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits with a strikeout.
Game 4: UGF 7, DSU 2
DSU scored a run in the top of the first but Great Falls plated three runs in the second and fourth innings and another in the fifth while DSU added a run in the sixth with UGF winning 7-2.
Stephens and Dillon recorded the only hits for the Blue Hawks. Dillon also recorded an RBI.
Brooks took the loss going 4 innings allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits with a strikeout while Creech threw 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit with a strikeout.
The Blue Hawks will travel back to Aberdeen this Friday, Saturday and Sunday as they open up NSAA play with six games. DSU will play a double header against Dakota State on Friday, a double header with Bellevue on Saturday and a double header vs Waldorf on Sunday.
