Brooks named NSAA Pitcher of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its seventh edition of the Softball Players-of-the-Week, announced by the conference office Monday.  Kadie Anderson of Valley City State (N.D.) was selected as Player-of-the-Week.  Abigail Brooks of Dickinson State (N.D.) was chosen as Pitcher-of-the-Week.

Kadie Anderson – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5'5" – Sophomore – Infielder – Jamestown, N.D. – Anderson batted .583 as Valley City State (N.D.) went 4-0 record with a sweep at Dakota State (S.D.).  She scored eight runs and had two doubles and drove in three runs.  For the week, Anderson recorded a slugging percentage of .750 (two doubles) and an on-base percentage of .667.  She was 7-of-12 at the plate, walked twice and swiped one base.

Abigail Brooks – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'9" – Sophomore – Pitcher – Rocklin, Calif. – Brooks went 2-0 record for the week with a save as Dickinson State (N.D.) went 3-1 record at Presentation (S.D.).  She tossed a complete game in 4-3 victory over the Saints after giving up three runs (one unearned) on seven hits and struck out five batters.  Brooks added a save after pitching 2/3 scoreless innings in relief in 3-2 victory.  She pitched 16 innings in Blue Hawks' 5-1 extra-innings victory over PC, allowing an unearned run on 11 hits.  She also recorded five strikeouts in the extra-inning affair.  For the week, Brooks pitched a total of 23 2/3 innings and gave up four runs (two unearned) on 19 hits and recorded 19 strikeouts.  She recorded an earned run average of 0.59 for the week.

Bellevue (Neb.), who cracked into the NAIA Softball Top 25 national poll at No. 25 spot, lost three of the four games in the North Star conference action at home versus Viterbo (Wis.).  The V-Hawks won the first three games (outscoring BU 7-1 in those three games combined) before the Bruins closed out the four-game series with a 12-1 five-inning victory.  Bellevue is 37-12 overall record.  Viterbo, who were swept by Clarke (Iowa) on the road on April 18, is 18-26 overall record on the season.

Jamestown (N.D.) and Mayville State (N.D.) split their North Star conference doubleheader on April 22.  The Jimmies won the first game 2-0 before the Comets earned a 4-2 9-inning victory in the second game.  UJ is 30-18 overall record, while MSU is 17-21 overall record.  The Comets fell to NCAA Division II Bemidji State (Minn.) on April 20.

Dickinson State (N.D.) won the first three conference games at Presentation (S.D.), including a 5-1 16-inning victory on April 23.  The Saints closed out the four-game series with a 3-2 victory.  Dickinson State is 19-21 overall record.  Presentation is 20-27 overall record.

Valley City State (N.D.) extended their winning streak to five games after a four-game series sweep at Dakota State (S.D.) on April 22-23.  The Vikings improved their overall record to 19-25.  Dakota State dropped their overall record to 14-33.

Waldorf (Iowa) was idle from North Star conference play last week.  The Warriors swept Mount Marty (S.D.) in a non-conference doubleheader on April 23.  WU is 15-21 overall record.

Bellevue currently leads the North Star conference standings with 16-6 record.  Jamestown and Viterbo are tied for second with 15-7 record.  Dickinson State is fourth with 14-8 record, followed by Mayville State fifth with 11-11 record.  Valley City State is sixth with 10-12 record, while Presentation is seventh with 9-15 record and Waldorf eighth with 7-15 record.  Dakota State concluded their NSAA conference schedule with a 5-21 record and finished ninth.

Looking Ahead
Mayville State (N.D.) and Jamestown (N.D.) will make up their North Star doubleheader Monday in Wahpeton, N.D.  Dakota State (S.D.) plays their third straight doubleheader, hosting their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) in a non-conference doubleheader Monday evening.

On Tuesday, Dickinson State (N.D.) hosts NCAA Division II Black Hills State (S.D.) in a non-conference doubleheader.  No. 25-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) stays home for a non-conference doubleheader versus Hastings (Neb.).

Waldorf (Iowa) travels to Clarke (Iowa) on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader. 

On Thursday, Viterbo (Wis.) returns home to host NCAA Division III Martin Luther (Minn.).  Bellevue concludes their home schedule with a doubleheader versus York (Neb.).  Dakota State is scheduled to finish off their home schedule with a doubleheader versus Dordt (Iowa). 

The North Star conference schedule ends this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.  The scheduled NSAA's four-game series include Presentation (S.D.) at Mayville State; Viterbo at Dickinson State and Bellevue at Waldorf.  Valley City State (N.D.) and Jamestown are scheduled to play home-and-home series on Saturday and Sunday.  Dakota State concludes their regular-season schedule Sunday at No. 10-ranked Morningside (Iowa).
