DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks picked up their eighth win of the season over Valley City State on Wednesday (Dec. 11), 70-57. Dickinson State is now to 8-3 on the season, while Valley City fell to 3-5.
Valley City forward Brittany Lehner led the Vikings offensively with 13 points. She was followed closely by Kelsey Hunter and Stephanie Pederson, who scored 12 and 10 respectively. Lehner also led with nine total rebounds. Four different Vikings tallied three assists and Valley City finished with 16. Sierra Even picked the pocket of a Blue Hawks' player five separate times, a game high. The Vikings finished with 19 steals, 31 rebounds, and a shooting percentage of 33.9.
Sophomore TaRicka Linzy picked up 19 points, a team high, while senior Jess Bygate added 16. Senior guard Mariah Duran was the lead playmaker for the Blue Hawks with five assists. She also knocked down two three-pointers to give her 29 total on the season. Duran led both teams with 36:17 on the court. Bygate pulled in nine rebounds for the Blue Hawks, eight of which were defensive, for a team high. Three Blue Hawks had two steals, while Bygate swiped three. Overall, the Blue Hawks finished with 17 assists, 15 steals, one block, and a shooting percentage of 46.3.
The Blue Hawks will be back on the court Saturday (Dec. 13), as they travel to Presentation College.
