Dickinson, ND – Senior guard Mariah Duran was the workhorse for the Blue Hawks' offense, scoring 28 points, as Dickinson State dropped Mayville State 85-83.
The first half saw six ties and nine lead changes, before Dickinson State was able to swing momentum in their favor. Duran picked up 14 points in the first half, while Sabina Rude brought in 15 for Mayville. The Blue Hawks would never lose the lead in the second half, but the Comets would make it close. With 2:30 left in regulation Kay Laforet drained a jumper to make it a two point game. Two minutes and ten seconds later Rude would make cut the Blue Hawks lead to 84-83. Just a one point game and 14 seconds on the clock, Rude fouled Rachael McDonough. McDonough made one free throw, to extend the lead to two. The final shot from Liza Hoglo would miss, giving the Blue Hawks the 85-83 victory.
Sabrina Rude knocked in 29 points for the Comets. Liza Hoglo and Haley Longtin each added 17. Missy Kassube led with seven rebounds. Mayville State finished with 44 rebounds and a 36.5 shooting percentage.
Duran was the Dickinson State offensive leader with 28 points. Junior Ja'Lisa Gatlin tallied 15, both senior Jess Bygate and junior Ashley Kennedy each chipped in 13. Bygate also led the Blue Hawks in rebounds with nine. Mariah Duran finished with 37:01 on the court, a game high. Dickinson State finished with 52 rebounds and five steals, while shooting 44.3% from the floor.
Dickinson State will be back on the floor in a Frontier Conference matchup, as they host Rocky Mountain College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
