Dickinson, ND – The Blue Hawks have won three straight regular season games, as they dropped Johnson and Wales 94-80 on Saturday, November 9. The Blue Hawks are now 4-1 on the year.
As tight as Friday's game was, Saturday would not be the same. Dickinson State took control early and would not relinquish. The Blue Hawks had a 21 point lead with 10:50 to play in the first half. The Wild Cats never held a lead and found themselves down 16 going into the half.
Kristen Ward and the Wild Cats wouldn't go down without a fight, however, as they stormed out of the gates in the second half. With 18:21 on the clock, Dickinson State held the largest lead of the game, a 22 point margin. Johnson and Wales went on an 18-8 run started by a Kristen Ward three-pointer, to bring the game within eight. Blue Hawk senior guard Mariah Duran battled back and put up five points to help extend the Blue Hawks' lead to 15. With 11:07 left in regulation, the Wild Cats would only see a single digit deficit twice after.
The Wild Cats were led by Kristen Ward who dropped 34 points. Amanda Weber tallied in 18 for Johnson and Wales, while Kourntey Shirley chipped in 14. No Wild Cat brought in over nine rebounds. Overall, the Wild Cats had 39 rebounds and 14 steals. Johnson and Wales turned the ball over 17 times and shot 38.9% from the floor.
Dickinson State sophomore guard TaRicka Linzy led the Blue Hawks with 30 points. Linzy also had 11 assists for her first double-double. Senior Mariah Duran brought in 19 points for the Blue Hawks and junior Ja'Lisa Gatlin chipped in 13 from the bench. Both Gatlin and seniorDawne Degel had 10 or more rebounds. The Blue Hawks finished with a 41.7% from the floor and 55 rebounds.
The next game for Dickinson State is on November 19, as they travel to Valley City State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
