Dickinson, ND -- The Blue Hawks handedly defeated the University of Manitoba Bisons, 63-40, on Saturday night. Three Blue Hawks reached double digits in points. The Blue Hawks are 1-0 on the year and Manitoba is 0-1.
The Bison were led by guard Stephanie Gill who recorded a team high seven points. Three Bison players scored six points: Sheree Carmona-Galdamez, Samantha Pyke, and Christiane Fischer. The Bisons struggled from the three-point line, going just 2-for-14. As a team they recorded 35 rebounds and went just 8-for-17 from the free throw line.
The Blue Hawks came out of the gate slow, but were filling all on cylinders before the 10 minute mark. Shooting at a clip of 36% for the game, the Blue Hawks offense scored 32 points in the first and 31 in the second. Senior guard Mariah Duran had a team high 13 points, though two of her teammates weren't far behind. Sophomore TaRicka Linzy put up 12 points and seniorJess Bygate tallied 11. Senior Dawn Degel had a team high of 13 total rebounds. The Blue Hawks went 26-for-34 from the charity stripe.
Mark Graupe picked up his first win as a Blue Hawk with the victory.
The Blue Hawks will be back on the court tomorrow Sunday, October 20, at 2 PM. They will be back out against the Univeristy of Manitoba Bisons.
