DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State University Head Women's Basketball Coach Mark Graupe is pleased to announce Ashley Bentz has signed a letter of intent to play for the Blue Hawks in 2014-15.
Bentz hails from Elgin, N.D. where she attended Grant County High School. Currently, she attends Moorhead State and will join the Blue Hawks in the fall.
Bentz was a 2013 ND Miss Basketball finalist. She earned five All-District selections and three All-Region selections. In 2011, as a sophomore, Bentz was a second team All-State selection. Then, in 2012 and 2013, she earned first team All-State honors. She was also a Wendy's High School Heisman female finalist for the state of North Dakota.
"Obviously Ashley has tons of accolades but also people need to know what a terrific person and student Ashley is," Graupe said. "She is another talent that the local people can identify with and we will get to watch her for four years. Ashley is very coachable and is a great teammate who will fit the mold of what were trying to bring in to our program. Thus our first two signees are great local players with the other being Hailee Farstveet from Beach."
Since her eighth grade year, Bentz has tallied 2,035 points, averaging 16.5 points per game. She has also averaged 7.8 rebounds per game, pulling in 960 total rebounds.
Not only has Bentz had success on the court, but she has also had success in the classroom. Bentz was the Valedictorian of the 2013 class at Grant County.
