Dickinson, ND -- The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks picked up their second win of the season to improve to 2-1. The Blue Hawks defeated Presentation College, 79-61. Presentation is now 0-1 on the year. Senior guard Mariah Duran led the Blue Hawks with 20 points.
The Saints looked to senior Hannah Phillips to kick start the offense. In the first half Phillips scored 16 points, but it wasn't enough as the Sainst trailed 42-35 at the half. Phillips was 6-for-13 from the field and picked up two assists in the first half. For the Blue Hawks, Mariah Duran came ready to play. Duran put up 13 points in the first, shooting 5-for-11.
Presentation had three players finish with 10 or more points. Hannah Phillips finished with 25 points. The Saints played a disciplined game, fouling DSU players only 12 times. Presentation put up 35 rebounds, only five were offensive.
As soon as the second half started, the Blue Hawks did not look back. Senior Jess Bygate finished the game with 14 rebounds, 10 points, and three assists. Duran would finish with 20 points, three rebounds and two assists, while playing 38:17. Sophomore TaRicka Linzy had 15 points, two assists, and seven rebounds.
The Blue Hawks shot 40% from the field in the second half, to finish with a 39.3% from the floor. Nearly every player who stepped onto the court for head coach Mark Graupe found the basket at some point. The Blue Hawks had ten different players score against the Saints. Presentation couldn't find a rhythm and never took the lead. The Blue Hawks' largest lead of the night was 18 and that is how the night would finish.
Dickinson State will be back out on the court on Friday, November 1, as they host South Dakota School of Mines & Tech. That game is scheduled for 5:30 PM and will be an exhibition.
