DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State picked up a 77-71 victory over the University of Great Falls on Thursday (Jan. 2). The Blue Hawks are now 12-5 overall, with a 2-0 record in the Frontier Conference.
Erin Legel found a groove, scoring 30 points, but it would not be enough for Great Falls. Legel hit six three-pointers and played all 40 minutes. Lindsey Abramson was the only other Argo to have over 10 points. She tallied 12. Mary Wilmore led the team with 11 rebounds, followed closely by Abramson with 10. The Argos only held the lead twice, both times briefly in the second half. Their largest lead was two. Great Falls finished with a shooting percentage of 33.3, 45 rebounds, and two blocks.
Junior Ja'Lisa Gatlin had a career night with 25 points and nine rebounds. She also had four steals over the course of 34:23 to cap her night. Senior guard Mariah Duran picked up 19 points, including going 7-for-8 at the charity stripe. Duran once again led the Blue Hawks in time on the court. Gatlin and Duran combined for 44 of Dickinson State's 77 points. Sophomore guardTaRicka Linzy recorded a team high six assists. Every player that head coach Mark Graupe sent to the floor recorded at least one rebound. The Blue Hawks finished with 45 total rebounds, 15 assists, 10 steals, and a 42.9 shooting percentage.
The Blue Hawks will be back on the court on Saturday (Jan. 4) at Scott Gymnasium for a Frontier Conference contest against Montana State University-Northern. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
