Herbst inked for basketball and track and field

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State University Head Women's Basketball Coach Mark Graupe is pleased to announce Paitton Herbst has signed a letter of intent to join the Blue Hawks for 2014-15.

The Baker, Mont. native will not only play basketball at Dickinson State, but also compete for track and field.

"I think Paitton will be able to contribute right away as a freshman," Graupe said.  "She often faced special defenses against her because she was so talented, she can handle the ball like a point guard and she loves to fast break which fits our system of the future perfectly.  She is also a terrific person, the type we love to have in our program."

Herbst averaged 13.9 points per game during her senior year.  She also collected 76 rebounds and averaged 4.3 steals per game.  Herbst was named All-State in 2012-13.  She tallied 28 points against Glasgow.

In 2011, Herbst was the State Champion in the mile.  She finished third in the 3,200-meter run and fourth in the 800-meter dash.  Herbst was also named All-State in cross country.  During the 2013 season she finished third in the mile, third in the 3,200, and fourth in javelin.

"We are excited about adding Paitton to our women's track team," assistant track coach Jace Schillinger said.  "She had a very good high school career in both distance running and throwing the javelin.  She can do a number of things for us next year from multi-events to mid-distance to javelin.  She is very competitive and comes from a very good family.  We are excited about what the future has in store for her at Dickinson State."

She is the daughter of Luke and DeAnna.
