DILLON, MONT. – The Blue Hawks will kick off their season in Dillon, Montana against a pair of former Frontier Conference foes.
"I am looking forward to these games just to gage where we are at," Head Coach Mark Graupe said. "We are getting tired of going against each other [in practice] every day and thus need some outside competition to give us a better idea of the full potential of the team."
Dickinson State was picked fourth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll by the North Star Athletic Association. The Blue Hawks finished 5-2 against North Star opponents during the 2013-14 season. Graupe has brought in a host of new players for the 2014-15 season.
"There are a lot of unknowns with this many new players," said Graupe. "I'm excited as the attitudes have been really positive and the ladies have been working extremely hard."
Dickinson State plays its first 11 games against opponents that are outside of NAIA Division II.
"The non-conference schedule is extremely difficicult," Graupe said. "Hopefully we can make that work in our favor and make us better for the start of conference play."
The pre-conference schedule includes games against Minot State, Rocky Mountain and an exhibition against the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
The Blue Hawks kick-off their conference play on January 21st against Mayville State at home in Scott Gym. The first home game of the season will be on Wednesday (Oct. 29) against Minot State.
Last season, Dickinson State was a combined 2-2 against Rocky Mountain and Montana Western. The Blue Haws swept the Battlin Bears' with wins of 88-69 and 84-63.
