DICKINSON, N.D. – Paitton Herbst's 18 points helped guide the Blue Hawks to their first win of the season on Saturday (Nov. 29) over Rocky Mountain College. Dickinson State is 1-7 after the 69-65 victory.
The Blue Hawks staked out an early lead and did not look back. Just five and a half minutes in, the Blue Hawks had a 12-2 lead. The Bears were able to pull within six at 30-24, but they could not find consistency with two minutes to play in the half. Tenika Capouch managed to pick up two points and push the score to 33-30 with 1:20 remaining. Hailee Farstveet drained a three for the final points of the first half to give the Blue Hawks a 36-30 lead at half.
The Blue Hawks came out of the locker room and never relinquished. A pair of early free throws from Capouch, who cut the deficit to four, was the closest the Battlin' Bears would get in the second half.
Dickinson State was able to answer the Bears' offense and come away with their first win of the season.
Whitney Mitchell led Rocky with 19 points. Kayla Lucas scored 18 off the bench. Bridger Rice led the Bears with five rebounds. Rocky finished with 35 rebounds, 10 assists, six steals, 17 turnovers, and a shooting percentage of 36.8.
