DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks fell in a tight battle with Brandon University on Saturday (Dec. 13), 73-69. The Blue Hawks are now 2-8 on the season.
The Bobcats mounted a sizeable lead in the first half at 43-28. With 14:18 to play in the second half, the Blue Hawks began a comeback. Hailee Farstveet knocked down a jumper and then stole the ball away from Aleah Bridges. Alyssa Hildebrand, who had just entered the game, connected on a three to cut the Bobcats' lead to 56-40. The Blue Hawks then outscored the Bobcats 10-4 in the next four minutes.
A pair of free throws from Kinsley Ransom pushed the lead to 62-51. Hildebrand forced Kalea Cranston to turn the ball over and then drained a three, bringing the score to 62-54. She would connect on another three two minutes later to cut the Bobcats' lead to 67-60. Farstveet converted on a jumper with 2:31 remaining to pull the Blue Hawks within four, 69-65.
The Bobcats were able to hang on thanks to a pair of free throws from Bridges, 73-69.
Alyssa Montgomery led Brandon with 17 points, while Mikaela Stanton scored 16. Montgomery had a double-double, as she pulled in 13 rebounds. The Bobcats finished with 52 rebounds, 16 assists, 13 turnovers, and a shooting percentage of 40.6.
Lorna Shepherd led the Blue Hawks with 17 points. Farstveet finished with 16. Hildebrand came off the bench for 11, nine of which came from beyond the arc. Megan Klein finished with 10 rebounds, while Porsha Wadsworth recorded seven. The Blue Hawks finished with 49 rebounds, 16 assists, three steals, one block, and a shooting percentage of 32.1.
Dickinson State will be on the road for their next game as they travel to Hawaii to play St. Xavier.
