MADISON, SD- The Dickinson State University Women's Basketball Team Come Back From 20 Down to Defeat Dakota State.
The Trojans of Dakota State (11-18 overall; 2-8 NSAA) came out hot to start the game. Within the first five min. the Trojans took a 12-4 lead and forced the Hawks to play from behind all night. At half time the score was 37-22 with the Trojans biggest lead, 18.
Although the Trojans took control of the first half things slowly changed and the Blue Hawks chipped away the entire 2nd half. Dakota state held their biggest lead of the night at the 16:00 minutes mark, leading by 20. In the last 16:00 min. the Hawks outscored the Trojans 39-15 and that was the difference in the game.
With the Hawks down by 2 and .10 seconds left on the game clock, PaittonHerbst fouled Sharee Galbaith to send her to the line to shoot the bonus. She missed her first free throw and it was rebounded by Lorna Shepherd who quickly got it down court to Alyssa Hildebrand who hit a three-pointer to put the Hawks up by 1 with .04 seconds left on the clock. The Blue Hawks took a timeout. The Trojans could not get the ball in before Hailee Farstveet stole it and was fouled on the same play which put her to the line to shoot the bonus. She sunk both to give the Hawks their biggest lead of the night. Time ran out and the Hawks were able to celebrate their 64-61 come back from behind victory.
Lorna Shepherd was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 19 points, 2 assists and 3 steals. Megan Klein finished with 17 points and a team high 19 rebounds.
The Blue Hawks end the regular season 10-17 overall and 4-6 in conference play. They will be the #4 seed and travel to play #3 Mayville State on February 25th in Mayville, ND to open up the NSAA Conference Tournament. The winner of the conference tournament will advance to the NAIA National Tournament.
