Megan Klien named NSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – Megan Klein of Dickinson State (N.D.) was selected to the fourteenth edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor, announced by the conference office Monday.

Megan Klein – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 6'1" – Sophomore – Center – Killdeer, N.D. – Klein posted a pair of double-doubles for the week as Dickinson State (N.D.) went 2-0 record on the road for the week.  She tallied 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in 81-70 victory at Presentation (S.D.).  She added 17 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in a 64-61 comeback victory at Dakota State (S.D.).  For the week, Klein averaged 18.5 points and 17.5 rebounds per game for the Blue Hawks.  She was 17-of-29 from the field, a shooting percentage of 58.6 percent.

Jamestown (N.D.), ranked No. 11 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, earned the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball Conference Title outright after posting a pair of home victories last week.  The Jimmies held on to defeat Dakota State (S.D.) on Feb. 18 by the score of 62-52.  UJ rallied back from a nine-point first-half deficit versus Mayville State (N.D.) for a 79-68 victory on Feb. 21.  Jamestown (22-6 overall record) finished the NSAA conference schedule with a 9-1 record and received the No. 1 seed in the conference postseason tournament.

Valley City State's (N.D.) seven-game winning streak was snapped by the Comets on Feb. 18 in Valley City, N.D.  The Vikings struggled from the field, shooting 27.9 percent while MSU shot 35.3 percent in 60-56 win.  Mayville State (17-7, 6-4 NSAA) is the third seed in the upcoming NSAA conference postseason tournament this week.

VCSU (20-8 and receiving votes in the national poll) finished second in the NSAA conference with an 8-2 record after cruising to an 88-50 victory at Presentation (S.D.) on Feb. 18. 

Dickinson State (N.D.) earned a pair of road victories in South Dakota, defeating Presentation 81-70 on Feb. 18.  The Blue Hawks mounted a furious comeback at Dakota State on Feb. 21, rallying back from 20-point second-half deficit for a 64-61 victory.  Dickinson State earned their first lead of the game with 4.4 seconds left after a 3-pointer by Alyssa Hildebrand.  As a result, the Blue Hawks (10-17) finished their first year in the NSAA conference with a 4-6 record and a fourth-place finish.

Dakota State (11-18) is fifth with 2-8 record in the NSAA conference, while Presentation (8-16) is 1-9 record and sixth in NSAA.

Looking Ahead This Week
The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball Postseason Tournament kicks off on Wednesday with top-seed Jamestown (N.D.) hosting sixth-seed Presentation (S.D.) at the Civic Center in Jamestown at 5:30 p.m. 

The other two quarterfinals games feature No. 2 seed Valley City State (N.D.) hosting No. 5 seed Dakota State (S.D.) at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City and No. 3 seed Mayville State (N.D.) taking on No. 4 seed Dickinson State (N.D.) at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville on Feb. 25.  Both games are slated to start at 7 p.m.

The winning highest seed from the quarterfinal round will host the championship game with the date to be announced on a later date.  The remaining two teams after the quarterfinals will battle in the semifinals at the second highest remaining seed left in the tournament.  The semifinal round is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28.

The NSAA Postseason Champion garners an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament, which is held at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa on March 11-17.
