DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Women's Basketball team defeated longtime rival and now NCAA DII, Minot State, on Wednesday night in Scott Gymnasium.
The Blue Hawks (2-0) outscored the Beavers 24-20 in the first quarter, 27-18 in the second, 15-14 in the third while the Beavers outscored the Blue Hawks 15-14 in the fourth quarter.
In the first half the Blue Hawks were led by MacKayla Feeney scoring 17 points while connecting on five- three pointers. Janniqua Thomas also added 13 points in the first half for the Blue Hawks leading Dickinson State into the locker room with a 51-38 lead over the Beavers.
Dickinson State shot 51 percent from the field in the first half and 47 percent from three. The Beavers shot 52 percent from the field and 18 percent from three in the first half.
Both the Blue Hawks and the Beavers cooled down in the second half with each team scoring 29 points in the final two quarters. Ashley Bentz became hot in the third quarter connecting on three straight three pointers for the Blue Hawks.
Dickinson State reached their biggest lead of the game at the 7:55 minute mark in the fourth quarter when they led the Beavers by 21 points.
Five Blue Hawks finished the game in double figures with Thomas leading the way with 19 points. Feeney added 17 points and four assists while Bentz finished with 15 points. Megan Klein recorded a double- double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Lorna Shepherd added 10 points and four assists.
The Beavers were led by Kari Clements and Alex Haley who each scored 12 points while Sarah Lester added 11 points in the loss to the Blue Hawks.
Dickinson State returns to the court on Sunday, November 1st when they host Brandon University in Scott Gym at 1:00 PM (MDT).
