Blue Hawks Pound Old Rival U-Mary 59-36

DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Women's Basketball team remained undefeated in their early season with a huge win over old rival the University of Mary Marauders on Tuesday night in front of a "White Out" crowd supporting Lung Cancer Awareness.

Both the Blue Hawks and the Marauders struggled from the field in the first half. Dickinson State shot 27 percent from the field and 20 percent from three while the Marauders shot 15 percent from the field and 14 percent from three. The Blue Hawks took a 31-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Blue Hawks shot 23 percent from the field and 30 percent from three while the Marauders shot 16 percent from the field and 17 percent from three. In the win, the Blue Hawks shot 50 percent from the free throw line while the Marauders also shot 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Janniqua Thomas led the Blue Hawks offense with 19 points while MacKayla Feeney added 15. Megan Klein added eight points but grabbed a game high 20 rebounds for the Blue Hawks. 

Brittney Dietz was the only Marauder in double digit scoring with 11 points. 

Dickinson State finished the game with 76 total rebounds, 13 assists, 18 turnovers, three blocks and 16 steals while the University of Mary finished the game with 46 rebounds, eight assists, 25 turnovers, three blocks and five steals.

The Blue Hawks are now 4-0, 0-0 NSAA and travel to Montana State- Northern on Saturday to square off with former Frontier Conference Rival, the Lights. Tip off is set for 1:30 PM (MDT).
