DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Women's Basketball team defeated the Waldorf College Warriors 91-57 in the Blue Hawks opening game of their NSAA season Tuesday night in Scott Gymnasium.
The Blue Hawks came out on fire in the first quarter outscoring the Warriors 32-14 followed by a 12-11 score in the second quarter to give the Blue Hawks a 44-25 lead going into halftime.
Dickinson State shot 42 percent from the field and 35 percent from three in the first half while the Warriors shot 34 percent from the field and seven percent from three.
The Blue Hawks never let up in the second half scoring 21 points in the third quarter to the Warriors 13 followed by the Blue Hawks scoring 21 in the fourth quarter while the Warriors scored 13 in the final quarter.
Dickinson State finished the game shooting 43 percent from the field, 34 percent from three and 76 percent from the line while the Warriors shot 33 percent from the field, 23 percent from three and 46 percent from the line in the loss to the Blue Hawks.
The Blue Hawks had four players score double figures led by Ashley Bentz with 15. Janniqua Thomas scored 12 points while Lorna Shepherd added 11 points. Megan Klein recorded another double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Warriors were led by Mackenzie Gott and Jamerka Martin with 13 points each while Samantha Birkes added 12 points in the loss to Dickinson State.
No. 19 Dickinson State is now 9-2 overall and 1-0 in NSAA play while Waldorf College is now 1-10 overall and 0-6 in NSAA play.
The Blue Hawks hit the air to Florida to play Webber International (FL) and Keiser University (FL) on December 18th and 19th. Game times are 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.
