DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Women's Basketball team was defeated by the Valley City State University Vikings, 71-67, on Friday night in a NSAA Women's Basketball Semifinals game.
Valley City State outscored Dickinson State 17-12 in the first quarter and 21-14 in the second quarter to take a 38-26 lead into halftime.
The Blue Hawks shot 32 percent from the field, 25 percent from three and 89 percent from the line in the first half while the Vikings shot 43 percent from the field, 27 percent from three and 90 percent from the line.
Dickinson State then outscored Valley City State 20-18 in the third quarter and 21-15 in the fourth quarter but the Vikings pulled out the NSAA Semifinals win, 71-67.
The Blue Hawks finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field, 29 percent from three and 86 percent from the line while the Vikings shot 38 percent from the field, 24 percent from three and 71 percent from the line.
Dickinson State finished with 35 rebounds, 12 assists, 9 turnovers, 5 blocks and 3 steals.
Valley City State finished with 42 rebounds, 13 assists, 12 turnovers, 3 blocks and 8 steals.
The Blue Hawks were led by Lorna Shepherd with 18 points. MacKayla Feeney finished with 14, Taylor Henningsgard had 13 and Ashley Bentz- Laub finished with 11 points. Megan Klein recorded 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Vikings were led by Hannah Schlecht with 23 points. Alli Vandal finished with 22 points and Sara Schwanke recorded 10 points in the Viking win.
Dickinson State finishes the 2017 season with a record of 23-7 and awaits a possible At-Large bid into the NAIA tournament.
Valley City is now 24-7 overall and will play the winner of Mayville State and the University of Jamestown for the NSAA Women's Basketball Tournament Championship.
