DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Athletic Department would like to announce the hiring of Liz Lewis as the new Blue Hawk Head Women's Basketball Coach.
The women's program has earned back-to-back NAIA national championship appearances the past two seasons.
"We are very excited to have Liz Lewis become our next women's basketball coach. Liz impressed everyone through the interview process," Stanton said. "Liz is very organized and energetic. She has a great vision of what she wants to achieve with the program. She is experienced and her teams have excelled off the court and in the community as well. We feel she we will be a great fit with the Blue Hawk family and are elated she will be leading our women's program. "
Coach Lewis spent the last 5 seasons as the head coach for the Miles Community College Lady Pioneers after taking over the program prior to the 2013-2014 season. During her tenure at Miles Community College, Lewis has compiled an overall record of 62--61 with the Lady Pioneers. Her second season with MCC would see the Lady Pioneers finish with a 19-12 overall record and a 9-6 conference record landing a 4th place finish in the Region IX North Sub-Region.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to be the head women's basketball coach at Dickinson State University," Lewis said. "I was impressed with the athletic department and the welcoming environment. I look forward to working with the DSU administration and the Dickinson community as I strive to continue the success of the women's basketball program."
During her tenure at Miles Community College, Lewis's teams have excelled both on the court and in the classroom. In 2013-2014 the Lady Pioneers came away with NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors boasting a 3.59 GPA. Her 2014-2015 squad placed third in the nation academically and Coach Lewis's 2015-2016 squad finished sixth in the nation academically. Coach Lewis has coached four Region IX All-Conference Team selections, two Region IX All-Defensive Team selections, and one Region IX All-Tournament Team selection.
Prior to her time at Miles Community College, Coach Lewis served as an assistant coach and Sports Information Director at Montana State University-Northern (2011-2012). Lewis also served as an assistant coach at NCAA DII Central Washington University (2011-2012), and she began her collegiate coaching career serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater Rocky Mountain College from 2009-2010.
"It will be bittersweet to leave Miles City and the Miles Community College family," Lewis said. "I am incredibly thankful for my time at MCC, and I will always be appreciative of the opportunity I had to begin my head coaching career at such a great institution. The chance to continue to my career at DSU would not have been possible without my start at Miles Community College. I also cannot thank the community enough for their support over the past four years. "
Lewis is a 2005 graduate of Churchill County High School in Fallon, Nevada, where she was a four-sport standout athlete. Lewis lettered in four sports and received All-Conference and All-State accolades in basketball her junior and senior seasons.
