DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawk women's basketball team took on the Waldorf Warriors (Iowa) in their second North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) game of the weekend. The Warriors' trip to Dickinson is their first conference game of the season. The Blue Hawks came into the evening off their win over NSAA opponent the night previously.
In the first half, neither of the teams were able to establish control on the scoreboard. Brady Kuchinka put life into the Warriors offense with 16 points in the half. But, the Blue Hawks' balanced attack they were able to keep up with the warriors. As a team in the first half, DSU shot 43% from the field. The Blue Hawks went into the half only trailing by three, 26-23.
During the second half, the Warriors were able to expand their lead. The Blue Hawks were unable to control Kuchinka's attack and the Warriors lead grew to 10. But, the Blue Hawks were able to chip away at the Warriors. With five minutes remaining the Blue Hawks were able retake the lead, but only for a moment. The Blue Hawks trailed the Warriors closely for the remainer of the game. DSU had an opportunity to tie Waldorf on the last possession, but a missed shot finished the matchup. Waldorf won 62-59.
The Blue Hawks had three players crack double digits in the scoring column. Marcus White led with 17 points, Jerry Shevlin and Konner Goettsche each had 10.
The Warriors only had two players in double digits, Kaden Verdin with 21 and Kuchinka with 25. Verdin also grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Blue Hawks as a team tallied 31 rebounds, they were out rebounded by the Warriors' 45. The Warriors controlled the boards on both sides of the floor, they grabbed 15 offensive rebounds.
A Look Ahead: The Blue Hawk basketball teams next action will be next weekend at Scott Gymnasium. They will have another pair of conference games, Friday against Viterbo and Saturday against Mayville State.
