Dickinson State Picked to Finish 5th in the NSAA Women's Golf Preseason Poll

MADISON, S.D. – The Blue Hawk Women's Golf team has been picked to finish 5th in the NSAA. The 2016 coaches' conference preseason poll was announced by the conference office Tuesday.

The Bellevue University Bruins collected all seven first-place votes to gain 49 points in the poll.  BU won the inaugural NSAA Women's Golf Team Conference Tournament and qualified for the NAIA Women's Golf National Tournament.  Bellevue finished in a tie for eighth-place (with South Carolina-Beaufort) in the national tournament last spring.

Viterbo (Wis.) was picked to finish second after tallying 38 points in the preseason poll.  Jamestown (N.D.) recorded 34 points to finish third, followed by Waldorf (Iowa) fourth with 29 points and Dickinson State (N.D.) fifth with 20 points.  Valley City State (N.D.) was predicted to finish sixth with 18 points and Presentation (S.D.) seventh with 7 points.

The Blue Hawk Women's golf team returns four ladies.  Leading the Hawks is Elle Milohov (Worden, Mt), Casey Pearson (Portola, Ca), Tiffany Benner (Baker, Mt) and Nicole Wangerin (Plentywood, Mt).  Also returning to the team is Alyssa Hildebrand (Powell, Wy).  We are excited to see the progress these young ladies have made after adjusting to college golf.

In 2016-17 the Blue Hawk Women's team was recognized by the NAIA for their high academic standard.  The team GPA was over 3.0.  Coach O'Donnell has also worked hard to bring in a few women who will help the Hawks raise in the standings.  Junior College transfer Dyana Leon (Sacramento, Ca), Natalee Hafer (Rapid City, SD) and Miles City CC transfer Jordan Sparby (Watford City, ND).

There are four rounds in the North Star Athletic Association Women's Golf Conference Tournament, with the first two rounds being held in the fall on Sept. 26-27 in Alberta Lea, Minn., hosted by Waldorf.  The final two rounds take place in the spring on April 24-25, 2017 in La Crosse, Wis., hosted by Viterbo.

The winner of the NSAA Women's Golf Conference Tournament (after all four rounds are completed) will received an automatic team bid to the national tournament.  The NAIA Women's Golf National Tournament is slated to take place in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. from May 23-26, 2017.
