DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks took on the University of Regina in their home opener on Friday (Jan. 23). Dickinson State came away with a 51-6 victory, propelled by six pins.
Michael Pajaro recorded the first pin of the day in the 133-pound bout. Pajaro was leading 11-1 over Nathan Schwarz in the second period, when Pajaro recorded the fall at 3:52.
Travis Koenig followed with a pin of his own against Sam Dietrich in the 141-pound bout. The pin came at 2:44, after Koenig recorded a takedown (2-0).
Lucas Hoffert recorded the only victory for Regina in the 157-pound match with a pin at 4:48.
In the 165-pound bout, Cole Bilbrey recorded a fall over Tyrell Adrogge in the second period (4:38). After the first period, Bilbrey was leading 7-0. He picked up one takedown and two nearfalls.
Tyler Brown led 10-1 over Austin Waldron after the first period in the 174-pound bout. He recorded another takedown to make the score 12-1, before recording a fall at 4:52.
Lane Oversen recorded a fall in the first period (1:30) over Geno Porier in the 184-pound match.
Simon Root battled Jacob Luczak in the 197-pound bout. Root went up 2-0 with a takedown, before Luczak recorded an escape. The first period ended with Root leading 2-1. Luczack elected to enter the second period neutral and recorded a takedown to take a 3-2 lead. Root evened the score with an escape. Heading into the third period, Root chose to open the period as the bottom man. He immediately recorded an escape and held on for the 4-3 decision.
Trevor Conrad recorded a pin in the heavyweight bout (2:12) over Luke Lauderville.
Dickinson State will be back in action on Saturday (Jan. 24) as they host the Tyler Plummer Classic. The action will start at 9 a.m.
