DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks finished first in the Taylor Plummer Classic on Saturday (Jan. 24) with 135 points.
Brice Gorsline won the 125-pound bracket. He recorded a fall over Phillip Johnson (Jamestown) at 3:25, then defeated Brandon Ashford (7-6) (UGF). In the finals, Gorsline recorded a 4-3 decision over Mhar Caballa (Northern).
Cade Coles finished third in the 133-pound bracket. He recorded a fall at 4:53 against Austin Shupe (UGF). He fell to Issac Wilson (UGF) at 3:53. Coles then took on teammate Michael Pajaro. Coles came away the victor in an 11-6 decision. Coles exacted a bit of revenge on Wilson in the third place match, recording a fall at 5:00.
Seth Ehlang won the 149-pound bracket. He recorded a fall over Justin Folsom (Jamestown) 1:44. He then recorded a 6-4 victory over Jake Kostik (Concordia-Moorhead). In the finals he defeated Brandon Weber (Northern), 5-3.
Sean Elkins finished second in the 157-pound bracket. He defeated Lucas Hoffert (Regina), 9-4. Then recorded a fal at 1:34 over Arram Price (UGF). His next match, he came away with a 7-2 decision over Khaldoon Rashid (UGF). In the finals, he fell to Chad Cebulski (UGF) 8-5.
Taylor Hodel finished second in the 165-pound weight class. He recorded a fall over Austin Helmer (Jamestown) at 2:14, to open his day. Hodel defeated Kris Newport (Northern) in a major decision, 8-0. He then shutout Andrew Bartel (Northern), 3-0. In the finals he fell to Ethan Heinbauch (Northern) at 4:40.
Lane Oversen finished third in the 184-pound weight class. He opened with an 8-0 major decision against Jesse Ramos (UGF). Oversen fell to Michael Ayala (UGF), 9-6. Oversen then recorded a 9-2 decision over Peter Struzik (UGF). In the third place match, Oversen picked up an 11-4 decision over Dan Maquete.
Hudson Buck improved to 17-0 on the year by winning the 197-pound bracket. He opened with a pin against Demetreus Roby (UGF) at 1:57. He then picked up a 5-0 decision over Kody Vandeneyke (Concordia-Moorhead). He then picked up his second fall of the tournament against Sam Voigtlaender (UGF) at 5:23. In the finals, Buck defeated No. 3 Garrett DeMers 4-3.
Dickinson State will be back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 28) against Concordia at 7 p.m.
