DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Wrestling team recently finished up their annual "DSU Wrestlers for Reading." This year marked the 10th year for the reading program.
The first five years, DSU Wrestling gave books to second and third grade students but the last five years changed to second grade students only. Over 10 years, the DSU Wrestling program has given away over 5,000 books to elementary students.
Wrestlers and Coaches organize the classroom time schedules and raise money to purchase books for every second grade student in the Public Schools and Catholic Schools in Dickinson. DSU Wrestlers read the first chapter of the book per classroom followed by talking about how reading is important to be a successful student at all levels of education and answer questions about DSU Wrestling. The Wrestlers then sign all the books and inform the students that the book is good for admittance to a home DSU Wrestling event.
This year the books were purchased with help from Diane Duchscher via the Home & Land Real-estate company.
