Blue Hawks Open Season at Midland Tournament

FREMONT, NE- The Dickinson State University Wrestling team opened up their 2015-16 season on January 2nd at the Viking Warrior Tournament hosted by Midland University.

The Midland Tournament hosted quite a few top ranked wrestling teams from the NCAA and NAIA including St. Cloud State (MN), Nebraska- Kearney and the #1 ranked team in the NAIA, Grand View (IA).

"This was a hard dog fight tournament from the first few matches. They wrestled well and this was a great measuring/evaluating opportunity. We will be able to learn and make some adjustments from this weekend to get better and get ready for the next event," said DSU Head Wrestling Coach Justin Schlecht.

Lane Oversen finished second at 184 while Taylor Hodel also finished second at 165. Jonathan Solano finished in third place at 184 and Hudson Buck finished in fourth at 197.

Seth Ehlang (149), Deshun Haynes (125), Brice Gorsline (125) and Nick Dekalb (174) all finished in the top 10 of their weight classes.

In the latest NAIA National Coaches Poll, the Blue Hawks received votes even though they had not wrestled up to this point in the 2015-16 season.

Dickinson State will now travel to Hastings (NE) on January 9th to wrestle in the Hastings Open.
