DICKINSON, ND- The Blue Hawk wrestling team held their final home dual Tuesday night against the University of Jamestown Jimmies. The Blue Hawk team saw success, ultimately leading to a 30-15 victory over Jamestown.
The Jimmies left two early weights, 125 and 141 pounds, open in the dual. Sandwiched between the two weights, Blue Hawk sophomore Gresh Jones got the first action in the competition. Jones started fast with an early takedown. Jones worked his opponent into a quick pin, two minutes and ten seconds into the match.
The pin and the two open weight classes gave the Blue Hawks a 18-0 lead heading into 149 pounds. DSU sent out Jamie Mullins for the team. Mullins battled, but fell in the match 16-10. The Blue Hawks bounced back at 157 pounds. Tanner Stone wrestled strong not allowing his opponent to score. Stone captured the match, winning 5-0.
The Jimmies closed the team score to 21-15 after winning the 165, 174, and 184-pound weight classes. Down the stretch, Payson Dirk took the mat for the Blue Hawks at 197 pounds. Dirk inched out at 7-6 win over the Jimmies giving the Blue Hawks a 24-15 lead. The Jimmies left the heavyweight class open, putting the icing on the cake for the Blue Hawks victory, 30-15.
